Maria Mitchell

Maria Mitchell (1818-1889) was an American astronomer, educator, and women's rights advocate, recognized as one of the first female astronomers in the United States. She gained prominence for her discovery of a comet in 1847, which was later named "Miss Mitchell's Comet" in her honor.
