About This Book

The narrative follows a family whose children are sent from a decaying plantation household to sea, where they are captured by a band of pirates. Removed from adult supervision, the children abandon familiar social conventions and display unsettling, often ambiguous behavior that confounds their captors and the adults who seek them. Grown-up interpretations, shaped by sentiment and prejudice, misread events and escalate consequences. Set against a lush, collapsing tropical landscape, the work examines innocence and culpability, the limits of understanding between generations, and the moral ambiguity that arises when childhood autonomy collides with adult expectation.
