About This Book

A girl adopted by two lonely prairie bachelors grows from child into a resourceful young woman as she endures blizzards, the burial of her birth mother, and the relentless demands of frontier household life. She becomes indispensable to her adoptive fathers, navigates questions of dress and social expectation, and eventually feels restless enough to leave in pursuit of opportunity and self-reliance. The narrative traces her emotional bonds, sacrifices, and developing attachments when suitors enter and one returns, exploring resilience, belonging, and the personal costs of independence on the plains.
