Nuorten leikillisistä, uhkarohkeista tempuista seuraa häpeää ja itsetutkiskelua, kun ihaillun henkilön paheksunta herättää tunnontarkastelua. Teksti tarkastelee kauneuden, älyn ja sisäisen hyveen yhteyttä, yhteisön odotuksia sekä nuoruuden leikillisyyden ja oman arvokkuuden jännitettä. Lopputilanteissa hahmon itsehillintö ja itsenäisyys korostuvat myös julkisissa tilanteissa, mikä erottaa hänet toveriensa käytöksestä.
