A comprehensive administrative and cultural survey of two Danubian principalities, opening with geography and a concise historical sketch and proceeding to detailed descriptions of governmental structures, courts, fiscal systems, and local officials. It examines population, taxation, monastic institutions, and natural resources, including mineral deposits and river navigation, and surveys principal towns and travel conditions. The work assesses Greek participation in administration and contemporary political developments, and outlines climate, education, language, customs, religion, peasant life, and agriculture. An appendix presents a translated Turkish manuscript on recent Ottoman military reforms, with explanatory notes.
