A New Year’s festival in a town of talking animals brings winter sports on Monkey Hill, with villagers preparing and competing in ski, snowshoe, foot, snowball, and toboggan events while skating is omitted. During a thrilling toboggan run a young squirrel is badly hurt; Sir Thomas Lion attends him and finds a broken leg. Two kindly old maid bears care for the orphan, legally adopt him, and provide a comfortable home. The injured squirrel recovers and becomes a beloved member of their household, while the community enjoys the lively contests and camaraderie of the day.
