Au pays de Sylvie

The narrative follows an elderly abbé who struggles with farewell as his two young vicomtes complete their studies and prepare for military life, reflecting on tradition, family memory, and proper conduct. The pupils escort him to the city and then indulge in theatre, late-night society and the pleasures of aristocratic leisure, their polite manners and equestrian tastes balancing youthful indulgence. Episodes move between quiet provincial scenes, ancestral portraits and family lore, and lightly satirical observations of social customs, exploring the tension between inherited duty and the allure of urban amusements.
