Bill of the wild streak

The story follows Bill, a large mixed-breed sheepdog whose wolfish ancestry struggles with his devotion to his master, Hardin. On night watch he nearly gives way to bloodlust when an obstinate ewe provokes him, but the master’s bugle and presence reawaken his training and loyalty. Hardin reflects on breeding, trust, and restraint while Bill stifles his predatory urges and resumes his guardianship. Tension lingers in Bill’s eyes as he detects Old Graybeard the coyote, foreshadowing further tests of instinct, duty, and the fragile balance between wildness and domestication.
