The three-act drama unfolds in a provincial spa town and centers on an aging man who drifts between nostalgia, addiction, and stalled desire as he interacts with his young daughter, a former lover, a free-spirited companion, a pragmatic physician, and an observant old servant. Scenes move between hotel salons, baths and consultations, exposing social performances, illnesses, suppressed resentments and shifting loyalties. Through realistic dialogue and stage directions the play examines the tensions between appearance and responsibility, the longing for regained youth, and the moral and emotional consequences of habit and compromise, culminating in confrontations that force reappraisal of personal freedom and ties to others.
