Captured by Apes; or, How Philip Garland Became King of Apeland

The story follows Philip Garland, a young dealer in animals who, after a shipwreck on a remote archipelago plagued by pirates, struggles to survive and encounters exotic wildlife. He is captured by apes and, through resourcefulness and knowledge of animals, rises to leadership among them, discovering treasure caves and the peculiar customs of an apish society while organizing defenses and confronting rivals. The narrative moves through sieges, battles, personal injury and illness, shifting alliances, and strategic maneuvers, culminating in the arrival of other human colonists and a climactic confrontation that resolves the island’s dangers and mysteries.
