About This Book

A chronological study of a queen consort who becomes regent, tracing her influence on government, court life, and family dynamics during a pivotal reign. The narrative follows accession and early administration, relationships with ministers, the organization and ceremonial of the royal household, episodes of regency, and political controversies including fiscal reform proposals. It also surveys cultural and literary patronage, dynastic marriages and tensions with the heir, engagement with the church, and the sovereign’s final illness and death, supplemented by portraits, scene illustrations, and an appendix of principal events and personages.
