About This Book

A sequence of short, domestic episodes follows a young girl and her brother as they find amusement, recover from illness, and encounter small adventures at home and in town. Household contrivances and games, a special chest of toys for convalescence, and narrated stories provide occasions for practical lessons in behavior and thought. Outings and social scenes—a ride to town, a gypsy party, a sleigh journey, visits to school and Sunday classes, and small presents—are used to illustrate manners, curiosity, imagination, and basic moral instruction through conversation and example.

PREFACE.

Two volumes of a series of little books, corresponding, in their general style and characteristics, with the Rollo Books for boys, but designed more particularly for the other sex, have already been published, under the names of Cousin Lucy’s Conversations, and Cousin Lucy’s Stories. This, and its companion, Cousin Lucy at Study, are now offered to the public, in the hope that the little readers, into whose hands they may fall, may be interested, and, in some degree at least, profited, by the perusal of them.
