A scholarly study examines the origins and evolution of the Eucharistic rite by comparing Gospel narratives and confessional formulations, reassessing Schleiermacher's suggestion that no explicit command for repetition exists, and reviewing nineteenth‑century historical research. It traces how early Christian, medieval, Reformation, and modern interpretations treated the meal, searches for recurring principles that govern changing doctrines, and addresses why the rite arose in the first communities yet became institutionalized. Through critical textual analysis and historical comparison the work proposes a coherent account intended to explain the sacrament's development across periods.
