Daisy Pot Holders
MATERIALS—Jack Frost Knitting Worsted (4-fold Germantown). Crochet hook size 0. Bone rings. CRAZY DAISY WINDER.
A—“RAINBOW PLAID” POT HOLDER—Colors—Red, Gray, Variegated Green and Rainbow.
DAISY—Following instructions on page 2, Illustration C, wind Variegated Green 4 times around each spoke of Winder. Cut 1” long. Weave center with Red as in Ill. E, making a 12-petal flower with 4 lps in each petal.
BLOCK—Sc in Red thru all 4 lps of one petal, * ch 4, sl st thru 1 lp of starting st of 4-ch, ch 5, (sl st, ch 3, sl st) in same place, sc in same petal, (ch 1, sc, ch 3 and sc all in next petal) twice, ch 1, sc in next petal. Repeat from * around. End with ch 1, sl st in 1st sc. Cut 6” long, thread to a needle and fasten off on back.
BACK—In Gray, ch 2 making 1st st twice usual size, 8 sc in long st. In back lps, (sl st, ch 3, dc) in 1st sc, * (ch 1, dc) 3 times in next 2d sc. Repeat from * twice, ** ch 1, dc in next 2d st, ch 1, sl st in 3d st of 1st 4-ch. ** ROW 3—Ch 4, dc in same st, ch 1, * (dc, ch 1, dc) in next 2d sp, (ch 1, dc) 3 times in corner dc. Repeat from * around. Repeat last row from ** to **. ROW 4—Ch 4, dc in same st, * ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next 2d sp, ch 1, sk next sp, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc) 3 times in next dc. Repeat from * around. End as from ** to ** in Row 2. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, lay Daisy Block on square, 2 sc thru 1 lp at end of a corner p into same st with sl st, * sc in next 1-ch sp, (sc in next dc, sc thru tip of next p into next 1-ch sp) twice, sc in next dc. Repeat from * once. Sc in next sp, 3 sc thru corner p into corner dc. Repeat from * around. End with 1 sc in 1st corner, sl st in 1st sc. Fasten off. Make another square in same colors. Make 2 squares with Daisy in Variegated Rainbow. Sew tog. thru 1 lp of each st, alternating colors.
EDGE—Sl st in Red in 1 sc, (ch 1, sl st in next sc) repeated around. Fasten off. Steam and press on back thru a cloth. Sew a bone ring to one corner.
B—“FLOWER BASKET” POT HOLDER—Colors—Gray, White, 3 shades of Green and 5 or more colors for flowers.
BASE—In white, ch 2 making 1st st twice usual size. 8 sc in long st. In back lps, (sl st, ch 3, and 2 dc) all in 1st sc, (3 dc in next sc) 7 times, sl st in 3-ch. Ch 3, dc in same st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) repeated around and join. Ch 3, dc in same st, (1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) repeated around and join. Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around and join. Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around and join. Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around and join. Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Fasten off.
BASKET—In Gray, ch 5, 8 dc in 1st st. Ch 1, turn and in back lps, (sc in 2 dc, 2 sc in next dc) twice, sc in 3 sts. Ch 3, turn and thru both lps, dc in last sc, (2 dc in next sc, 1 dc in next) 5 times. Ch 1, turn and in back lps, (sc in 2 dc, 2 sc in next dc) 5 times, sc in 2 sts. Ch 3, turn and thru both lps, (dc in 7 sc, 2 dc in next sc) twice, dc in 6 sc. Ch 1, turn and in back lps, (sc in 4 dc, 2 sc in next st) 4 times, sc in 4 dc. Ch 3, turn and thru both lps, (dc in 6 sc, 2 dc in next sc) 3 times, dc in 7 sc. Ch 1, turn and in back lps, (sc in 4 dc, 2 sc in next dc) 5 times, 6 sc. Ch 3, turn and thru both lps, (dc in 8 sc, 2 dc in next sc) 3 times, 9 dc. Ch 1, turn and in both lps, sl st in last dc, (ch 3, sl st in next 2 dc) repeated across. Fasten off. Handle—Ch 90, sk last st, sc in each remaining st. Ch 2, turn, hdc in back lp of each sc. Fasten off. Sew Basket back-to-back on Base.
DAISY—Following instructions on page 2, Illustration C, wind a color twice around each spoke of Winder. Cut 1” long and weave center with another color as in Ill. E, making a 12-petal flower with 2 lps in each petal. Make 5.
LEAF—In Green, ch 15, sl st in 3d st from hook, (1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 4 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc) on bal. of ch, ch 4 and fasten off. Make 3. Sew flowers and leaves on Base above Basket as in illustration.
Steam and press dry on back thru a cloth. Sew a bone ring to top.
C—“NOSEGAY” POT HOLDER—Colors—Beige and 7 or more colors for flowers.
BLOCK—Daisy—Following instructions on page 2, Illustration C, wind 3 colors twice around each spoke of Winder. Cut 1” long and weave center with another color as in Ill. E, making a 12-petal flower with 2 lps in each petal. Edge—Sc in Beige thru both lps of one petal, * ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next petal. Repeat from * around. End with ch 1, 1 sc in 1st petal, ch 2, sl st in 1st sc. Cut 6” long, thread to a needle and fasten off on back.
2d BLOCK—Repeat Edge to *. (Ch 1, sc in next petal, ch 1, sl st in a p on 1st Block, ch 1, sc back in same petal) 3 times, and complete as for 1st Block.
3d BLOCK—Repeat Edge to *. Ch 1, sc in next petal, ch 1 and counting from joining of 1st 2 Blocks, sl st in 2d p to left on 1st Block, ch 1, sc back in same petal, ch 1, sc in next petal, ch 1, sl st in next p on 1st Block, ch 1, sc back in same petal, ch 1, sc in next petal, ch 1, sl st in joining of 1st 2 Blocks, ch 1, sc back in same petal. Continue, joining to next 2 ps on 2d Block, then complete Block. Continue, joining 4 more Blocks around 1st Block.
Steam and press dry on back thru a cloth. Line back with felt. Sew a bone ring to one corner.
