About This Book
The narrative follows a lively young hairdresser who moves to the metropolis, marries a devoted worker, and gradually grows disgusted by domestic life, sexual estrangement, and conflicts with her mother-in-law. Her shifting loyalties and secret affairs strain the marriage; friendship with another woman intensifies, feeding resentment and reckless solidarity. Tensions of class, desire, and power escalate until the friends conspire in a lethal act involving poison and its aftermath, exposing moral ambiguities and the social pressures that drive ordinary people toward crime.
