Der vorliegende Text wurde anhand der Buchausgabe von 1893 so weit wie möglich originalgetreu wiedergegeben. Offensichtliche Fehler wurden stillschweigend korrigiert. Ungewöhnliche und heute nicht mehr verwendete Schreibweisen bleiben gegenüber dem Original unverändert.

Chemische Formeln werden, entgegen dem Original, durchgehend mit tiefgestellten Zahlen dargestellt, z.B. K2CO3, statt K2CO3.
