Doorway to Destruction

The story follows scientist Kelvin Martin, who created a machine that opens a passage to a violent alternate world; when his assistant Jon Vance seizes the device to loot exotic treasures, Martin is bound and imprisoned while fearing that the alien race will use the machine to invade. Struggling against restraints and dwindling options, Martin reflects on his work, warns of the beings' cruelty, and wrestles with the moral and practical consequences of a discovery that can bridge spaces.
