About This Book

An archaeological report of excavations at an Upper Egyptian cemetery provides systematic descriptions of tomb architecture, burial types, and associated artifacts, from early mastabas and stairway graves to Middle Kingdom and New Empire monuments. The author analyzes contracted burials previously labeled New Race or Libyan, reevaluating their chronological position through pottery, inscribed objects, and stratigraphic associations and arguing for a largely pre-dynastic origin. Detailed catalogues of finds—vessels, scarabs, inscribed cylinders, foundation deposits—and plate descriptions accompany plans and photographs, while discussions consider the overlap and intrusion between Neolithic-type interments and later historic-period tombs.
