About This Book

A young man who leaves a difficult home to seek his own way in the city finds steady work and, by a series of chances, becomes private secretary to a wealthy woman and travels with her abroad. He confronts an unscrupulous nephew and other rivals who plot to discredit him, becomes embroiled in money disputes, accusations, and dangerous encounters including fights and a fire. By perseverance, resourcefulness, and courage he exposes deception, protects his employer and friends, and resolves the tangled affairs, with recurring themes of loyalty, social ambition, and the hazards of sudden fortune.
