Forever is Not So Long

An aging professor builds a prototype time tube meant to travel ten years forward and return with an improved control device to accelerate scientific progress. He selects his young assistant to pilot the inaugural voyage, forcing a clash between laboratory duty and personal attachments at a country gathering. The story follows the technical preparations and tense first test while examining the emotional cost, practical hazards, and ethical questions that arise when foresight is used to shortcut discovery and alter lives.
