About This Book

The collection retells early Gaelic mythic cycles in two parts: the Tuatha Dé Danann, recounting their arrival, rivalries, battles with other peoples, and portraits of gods such as Lugh, the Dagda, Manannán and the Morrígan, and the fate of enchanted figures; and the Fianna cycle, chronicling the deeds of Finn and his warriors, their hunts, contests, love-quests and declining fortunes, including Diarmuid and Gráinne and Oisín's later encounters. Episodes blend heroic combat, supernatural intervention, enchanted places and moral reflection, presented as arranged narrative vignettes and explanatory notes that collect origin tales, battles, romances and folklore into an accessible retelling.
