About This Book

An elderly soldier called Grampa joins a young prince, a lost princess and a weathercock after a curious heroine becomes involved in their affairs. They travel through eccentric locales — Ragbad in a storm, a Blue Forest, hollow trees, a winding stairway, a volcano and distant islands — confronting baffled bandits, mischievous play fellows and magical contrivances. A meddlesome witch, prophets and unexpected transformations complicate their quests, which include recovering missing rulers and unraveling enchantments. The adventures end with rewards for the brave, the reversal of several spells and rejoicing as the community of Ragbad is restored.
