Ham Sandwich

A group of advanced students at a private institute pursue techniques of Total Insight under a charismatic leader. Wallace Cavender, a latecomer and ambivalent member, observes younger volunteers whose experimental exercises produce headaches, nightmares, and dissociation. As the leader prepares the group for a higher-risk experiment that could reveal a startling phenomenon, tensions among members about progress, credibility, and personal cost surface. The narrative examines the social dynamics of a self-selecting spiritual-scientific community, the risks of pushing mental boundaries, and the uneasy balance between genuine talent and institutional needs.
