Headhunters of Nuamerica

The narrative opens with Downey and Judith regaining consciousness after an explosion and emerging from a concrete tube into a startlingly altered cityscape where oversized trees and brightly costumed inhabitants reveal centuries of change. Mistaken for relics found amid excavations, they must account for their sudden appearance while struggling to understand unfamiliar speech, customs, and authorities that treat them as anomalies. The story follows their bewilderment and cautious interactions with a society whose memory of past violence differs from their own, examining themes of temporal dislocation, cultural misunderstanding, and the uneasy persistence of ruins within a reconstructed future world.
