VOORWOORD.

Toen ik de belofte aflegde, de vervaardiging eener beschrijving van het Eiland Texel op mij te nemen, beloofde ik tevens, ook het Eiland Wieringen, op gelijke wijze te zullen bewerken.—

Ik heb die belofte gehouden, waartoe ik vooral werd in staat gesteld, door de welwillende medewerking van de H.H. Mr. J. van Hengel, Burgemeester der Gemeente Wieringen, Weeshuizen, Opzigter van ’s Rijks Waterstaat, J. Hoefnagel, Openbaar Onderwijzer en M. Koorn, Wethouder aldaar, welke allen mij vele en belangrijke inlichtingen hebben ten beste gegeven, en waarvoor ik HEdn. bij dezen, openlijk mijnen welmeenenden dank betuige.

Met bescheidenheid, beveel ik mijnen Landgenooten in het algemeen, en Wieringen’s Bevolking in het bijzonder, mijnen arbeid aan. Mogt het werkje hunne goedkeuring wegdragen!
