About This Book
The narrator, a thirteen-year-old boy enthralled by nearby army airfields, and his younger brother often watch cadets and dream of flight. When he seizes a chance to cling to the landing-axle of a new pursuit plane, he is carried aloft unknowingly and endures a harrowing mix of fear, physical strain, and exhilaration as the pilots test the aircraft with daring maneuvers, offering sweeping views of the town below and forcing him to confront the dangerous consequences of his impulsive curiosity.
