E null'altro, forse? Non ci sarà dato di sperare che lo spirito dell'infelice amatore si sia ricongiunto a quello della sua Fiordalisa? Ciò che sentiamo di questi grandi esempi d'amore, così rari purtroppo nel mondo, ci conforta a credere che tanto ardore non possa e non debba morire con questa povera compagine d'ossa e di polpe. Infine, ogni spettacolo di martirio non richiama l'idea del trionfo?
