About This Book
An elderly chemical company owner uses a dictaphone to record a confession to his wife about an affair with a young chorus girl and the murder he committed, dissolving her body in an acid vat. He explains how he disposed of evidence and later began to be haunted by sensory phenomena: a recurring voice on the radio, the smell of the woman's perfume, and unsettling noises from the storage room. The recording alternates between remorseful confession and escalating fear as the narrator perceives a continuing, possibly supernatural, retribution.
