Avant d’aller dormir près de toi dans la terre,

J’ai voulu, pour ta joie, écrire ce Mystère,

Tel un pâtre ignorant, sur un morceau de bois,

De son couteau grossier sculpte un Jésus en croix,

Et j’ai fait ce travail, où se complut mon âme,

Grand-père, en souvenir de cette belle flamme

Que mon regard surprit vivante au fond du tien,

Quand, tourné vers l’Espoir, tu mourus en chrétien.
