Les turcs, devant Constantinople,
Virent un géant chevalier,
A l’écu d’or et de sinople,
Suivi d’un lion familier.

Mahomet deux, sous les murailles,
Lui cria: Qu’es-tu? Le géant
Dit: «—Je m’appelle Funérailles.
Et toi, tu t’appelles Néant.

«Mon nom sous le soleil est France.
Je reviendrai dans la clarté,
J’apporterai la délivrance,
J’amènerai la liberté.

«Mon armure est dorée et verte
Comme la mer sous le ciel bleu;
Derrière moi l’ombre est ouverte;
Le lion qui me suit, c’est Dieu.»
