The book surveys everyday life in Paris from the Middle Ages through the eighteenth century, examining trades, fashions, manners, and personal grooming. It follows the evolution of barbering and surgery, changing practices of bathing and cleanliness in monastic and urban contexts, and the social attitudes that regulated toilette and etiquette. Drawing on original and unpublished documents, the text reconstructs rituals, institutions, and prejudices that shaped domestic habits and savoir-vivre across several centuries.
