About This Book
Three childhood friends reunite when one returns from African expeditions and recounts a brutal episode: a gorilla abducted and severely injured a young woman named Esther, prompting a small party to track the animal and kill it in a bloody confrontation. The narrative then moves to Paris, following the anxious, convalescent Paul de Breuilly as his memories and obsessions surface during urban promenades. By alternating colonial adventure with metropolitan scenes, the story probes masculine friendship, drives of vengeance, and the uneasy boundary drawn between perceived civilization and violence.
