About This Book

This volume compiles detailed life‑history accounts of shorebirds, giving species‑by‑species treatments of behavior, breeding biology, migration, molts and plumages, nests and eggs, and geographic distribution. Egg‑date ranges and measurement extremes are summarized from major collections and field observations. The author adopts current avian nomenclature and integrates published records with contributions from numerous observers and photographers; distribution paragraphs were prepared using Biological Survey reference files. Plates and careful descriptions support identification across age classes and seasons, while migration timing and typical habitats receive particular emphasis.
