About This Book

Two young children, a curious girl and her bright-haired cousin, are carried from ordinary play into a sequence of whimsical, dreamlike adventures in which toys, household objects, and tiny folk spring to life. The work unfolds as a series of short episodic tales—animated puddings and pans, visits to toy-land and dolls' paradises, enchanted animals, and fairy-guided journeys—each sparked by imagination or slumber. Episodes blend gentle peril and comic mishap with recurring lessons about helpfulness, friendship, and wonder, while lively pacing and frequent illustrative scenes keep the tone playful and accessible for young readers.

LITTLE MISS DOROTHY.

PREFACE.

O the wonderful journeys the children take
In fairy boats o’er sunset lake:
A drowsy fleet with Captain Snore,
Who lands them safely on slumber shore!
And Little Boy Blue is waiting there
To show them the road to dreamland fair.
Over the road they float away,
Meeting their friends of every day,
Heroes of “once-upon-a-time”
And magic scenes of ev’ry clime;
Playthings and friends the same until
They reach dear Topsy-turvy Hill.
And fairies nightly frolic there
All on the road to dreamland fair.
