About This Book
The narrative follows a young Indigenous couple who flee an arranged marriage and become entangled in wider conflicts of the New Mexican pueblo community while a hunt for a legendary lost mine drives much of the action. Interwoven episodes depict family rivalries, ritual and custom, mule races, hunts, fights, and forays into rugged country, combining romance, pursuit, and treasure-seeking. The structure moves episodically through confrontations, trails and discoveries — including subterranean hearths, wounded men, bargains and chases — toward a resolution that balances violence, reconciliation, and the contested claim to silver and land.
