Lord Lister No. 0025: De bankdirecteur

A charismatic master thief recounts his rise and recent troubles: membership in an exclusive club, a swift and intense romance with a young woman introduced by a wealthy associate, and acceptance of a prominent post as a bank director in name. While he courts the woman, the associate uses the narrator’s reputation to attract capital and misappropriate investors’ funds. The narrator’s sudden inheritance alters his standing and prompts the realization of betrayal, leading him to consider leaving the city and to reflect on law enforcement. A chance encounter in a theatre reconnects him with a figure from his past and propels the plot toward further conflict.
