About This Book

A loosely episodic narrative follows a group of wandering entertainers as they move through poor rural communities, staging puppet shows, begging, and provoking both wonder and resentment. Close, often comic scenes depict exchanges between villagers and outsiders, sudden acts of violence, small mercies and hospitality, and the loyalties and tensions within the travelling party. Through vivid vignettes and shifting perspectives the work examines survival on society’s margins, the mingling of art and necessity, and how brief encounters expose human vulnerability, pride, and compassion in isolated settlements.
