About This Book
A series of short, humorous episodes follows a small community of anthropomorphic woodland animals who convert the unused upper limbs of a hollow tree into an inn, welcome boarders, quarrel and reconcile, and stage playful schemes and mishaps. Each tale centers on familiar characters — a raccoon, opossum, black crow, rabbit, robin, squirrel, turtle and dog — and balances comic pratfalls, domestic frictions and gentle lessons. Interspersed are light verse and descriptive scenes of country life; the collection sustains an easy, conversational narrative voice suited to young readers.
