The narrative follows an imperial ruler who faces a steady succession of alleged assassination attempts and security scares within a technologically advanced palace. Daily life is mediated by robots, loyal mercenary guards, and elaborate court rituals, while investigators and a powerful security ministry manipulate evidence and fabricate threats. A supposed poisoning via a cooking robot turns out to be a benign institutional adaptation, exposing the performative nature of surveillance and political rivalries among high officials. The story examines tensions between human dignity and mechanization, the corrosive effects of bureaucratic paranoia, and how power is maintained through spectacle and engineered disturbances.
