About This Book
A newcomer from Salt Lake City visits a Southern town and engages neighbors in sustained discussions about Christian doctrine and the Latter-day Saint faith. Through meetings and personal conversation he explains claims of restoration, the Book of Mormon, baptism by immersion, priesthood authority, baptism for the dead, preexistence, resurrection, and eternal marriage, and recounts early church history and the westward settlement in Utah. The account follows his efforts to persuade and instruct, portraying local hospitality, suspicion, occasional hostility, and detailed doctrinal exposition intended to clarify belief, ordinances, and church organization.
