About This Book

A coastal-household drama follows members of an extended family and guests gathered at a seaside hotel and the empty Foxhills estate, where a sudden death sparks a police inquiry. The narrative traces investigative leads—diary entries, letters, a Colt automatic and cartridge cases, witness statements and a telegram—while relatives' histories and personal tensions come to light. Detectives pursue physical clues and mount a manhunt along the beach, and multiple testimonies, including a niece's narrative and Mme. Laurent-Desrousseaux's evidence, gradually expose motives, coercion, and concealed connections until the various threads of the case are tied together.
