About This Book

She endures poverty, suspicion, and meddling relatives while concealing her origins; by diligence, intelligence, and steadfast loyalty she wins a post as secretary to a reclusive industrialist, weathers misunderstandings and schemers, pursues education, aids fellow workers, and ultimately brings about recognition and reconciliation with a distant relation, altering her prospects and earning the gratitude of her community.
