Nothing But the Best

A man who can cross between parallel versions of his town uses a quartet of humming metal boxes to step through a disorienting arch and bring an alternate self into his world. He demonstrates how small divergences, from the presence of a lumber company to differences in domestic arrangements, suggest that decisive choices spawn separate realities. In the visitor's presence he argues that each life choice produces an alternate life, and he confronts the counterpart with a particular romantic decision that accounts for their differing households and circumstances.
