Our Young Aeroplane Scouts in Germany; or, Winning the Iron Cross

The story follows two boy aviators, Billy and Henri, who undertake daring reconnaissance and courier missions amid wartime dangers, guided at times by the crafty agent Roque. Their adventures mix aerial combat and fragile flight with ground perils: stolen papers, covert signals for secret landings, night raids that plunge rooms into darkness, bombing flights, carrier pigeons, capture by enemy forces, and bold rescues. Repeated escapes, sudden duels, and resourceful improvisations propel a sequence of set-piece episodes that concludes with recognition tied to a wartime decoration and a dramatic bid for freedom.
