About This Book

A mischievous boy and his father undertake a government-appointed tour to gather information about airships and related inventions, generating a series of comic episodes. The boy briefly enters an orphan asylum, devises humorous contraptions, and experiences chaotic balloon voyages and run-ins aboard naval vessels. Their travels take them through parts of Europe and ultimately to South Africa, where they procure an airship and face slapstick encounters with wildlife, narrow escapes, and schemes that test their resourcefulness. The narrative is episodic and illustrated, mixing satire of technology and travel with farcical adventures centered on the pair’s bungling ingenuity.
