About This Book
The story follows a weary boy who discovers a kindly toymaker and is welcomed into a magical shop, becoming playmate to a child named Helen. From that beginning the narrative moves episodically through a maplike Toyville, chronicling journeys and encounters with toy characters, musicians, messengers, and a rival called Red Beard, with episodes of ambush, chase, rescue, and festivals. Scattered interludes of whimsy—feasts, games, a fountain with a frog—lead to a concluding celebration that restores joy and closes the toys' adventures.
