MY PLACE OF BIRTH.
POOR BLOSSOM;
The Story of a Horse.

THE HORSE,
THESE PAGES ARE RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED.
A horse narrates her life from birth in a rural paddock, learning from her mother about obedience and the dangers of cruel training. She recounts being broken to work, sold repeatedly, and serving under various masters who range from kind to abusive. Episodes include life on a farm, service for tradespeople and showmen, participation in a carnival, moments of tenderness with a gentle mistress, and recurrent losses. The episodic memoir considers animal labour, loyalty, and suffering, tracing the horse’s changing fortunes and eventual decline while contrasting human compassion with human callousness.
