Quinquepedalian

Charles Tinnerman and two companions encounter enormous, single-footprint trails in an alien forest and shelter beneath towering, banyan-like trees. Tinnerman calculates the colossal weight implied by the prints and speculates about the creature's locomotion and biological limits. Compelled by curiosity and analytic reasoning, he climbs into the canopy to search for roosts or nests, while the setting exerts unfamiliar physical forces. The narrative combines close observation, speculative natural history, and mathematical inference to build mounting suspense as human inquiry confronts an incomprehensibly large native organism.
