Rebellion

The story follows Jim Connor, a ward heeler whose allegiance to a local political boss shapes his public authority and private life. At home his marriage to Georgia frays under his drinking, her silences, and the precarity of their wages; Georgia's illness and the abrupt loss of pay reveal everyday economic vulnerability. Through episodes of machine politics, neighborhood loyalty, and domestic strain, the narrative traces personal reckonings and shifting power relations, exploring how loyalty, ambition, and moral choice prompt challenges to established authority and produce ripple effects in both family life and community governance.
