The narrative reconstructs the formative centuries of Rome, tracing early settlements and migrations in Italy and the gradual emergence of the Latin communities and the city itself. Military and diplomatic relations with neighboring Etruscan, Umbro‑Sabellian, Samnite, Greek and Carthaginian powers are examined, as are economic foundations such as agriculture, crafts, commerce, measures and coinage.
